As we enter into a new year, we look back over the past year’s ups and downs. With the clock ticking toward midnight, we take a look at the top 10 stories to grace the pages of the Courier-Herald over the past year. Here are honorable mention pieces from 2014.
Since losing its first game of the season, the Spartan girls basketball team is on a five game winning streak. Sumner beat Auburn Mountainview 53-35 at home Thursday.
Bonney Lake sits in fourth place in the South Puget Sound League 3A with a 1-1 conference record and 2-3 overall.
The Panthers are in seventh place in the South Puget Sound League 3A after two meets. Bonney Lake is 0-2 in conference play and overall.
The Spartan girls have won three in a row, four games into the season. Sumner sits in second place behind the Enumclaw Hornets with a 2-0 conference record and 3-1 overall.
The Spartan boys basketball team were South Puget Sound League 2A champions and ended its season in the state semifinals last year losing 56-35 to the Lynden Lions.

On Nov. 19 Bonney Lake Police Officer and School Resource Officer Daron Wolschleger received word that a bomb threat had been found at Bonney Lake High School.
The Panthers ended the 2014 season with a 1-6 conference record and a 3-7 record overall. The Spartans season finished with a 38-0 loss to Bellevue in the first round of the state tournament.
On Black Friday as many people were out getting the best deals, the Bonney Lake Police Department launched its first Holiday Park Smart Program.From 3 to 5 p.m., police officers and citizens handed out flyers with the goal of reducing the number of vehicle break ins.
Panther and Spartan sports players received all-league honors at the end of the fall sports season.
On Nov. 10 officers responded to the report of a suspicious male walking through a state Route 410 restaurant parking lot.
On Thursday, Nov. 13, the JC Penny company announced plans for layoffs at the Sumner supply chain facility.
The Sumner Spartans traveled to Bellevue Friday to face the state top team in the first round of the state tournament. Sumner lost 38-0 to the undefeated Wolverines.
Bonney Lake and Sumner played in the first round of the state tournament Wednesday. Both teams lost, ending its seasons.
The Bonney Lake Panthers won three straight during the 3A district soccer tournament. The Panthers finish the tournament entering state in the No. 5 spot.
The Panthers and Spartans competed in the 3A district volleyball tournament at Auburn Mountainview on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans enter the first round of state after its win over Juanita Saturday. Sumner won 52-28.
