Enumclaw is one step closer to filling the vacancy on the City Council following the death of Councilman Kevin Mahelona on Nov. 16.
At the Monday (Jan. 14) council meeting seven of the eight candidates who applied for the position spoke to the council.
After the seven spoke and the council completed the business on the agenda the members adjourned into an executive session to discuss the candidates.
The council selected three to move forward to the next round.
The three selected were Julie Reece DeMarco, Mike Sando and Kyle Diercks.
The other candidates were Pamela Harding, Jan Molinaro, Carl Sanders, Mathew Suhoversnik and Layne Virgin.
The 54-year-old Mahelona died from acute interstitial pneumonia.
