Crystal Mountain will soon be home to the only gondola at a ski area in Washington state.

A Chinook helicopter was on the mountain Nov. 3, hauling in 13 towers to support the new venture. The day started with challenging winds, but Mother Nature eventually cooperated and everything was accomplished according to schedule.

Skiers and foot passengers will journey almost 2,500 vertical feet over alpine terrain from the base area to the top of the mountain in less than 10 minutes. The gondola will provide access to the Summit House, a breathtaking vista of Mount Rainier and some of the best terrain found on the mountain.

There are a total of 18 cabins, each seating eight passengers. The gondola opens many new doors: First Tracks Breakfast, aprés-ski and dinner at the Summit House, scenic rides for foot passengers, early and late-spring skiing and more.
