Connie Bacon wins 2013 Globe Award for Lifetime Achievement | World Trade Center
At the May 31st World Trade Center Tacoma Board Meeting Port of Tacoma Commissioner Connie Bacon was invited to attend and give her perspective on the Globe Awards. Commissioner Bacon was Executive Director of the World Trade Center Tacoma in 1993 when the very first Globe Awards event was launched.
The Commissioner was surprised that she’d really been invited to hear the news that the Board had selected her to win a Globe Award herself. Commissioner Bacon will be the 2nd recipient of the Globe Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award was selected by the WTC Tacoma Board. Last year was the first time the Lifetime Achievement Award was given. Secretary of State Sam Reed received that first award.
The 20th Annual Globe Awards will take place on September 19th 2013 in Tacoma. Nominations are still being accepted for four categories – Exporter of the Year, Importer of the Year, Service Provider of the Year and Emerging Business of the Year. All nominees must be either headquartered or have significant operations in Washington State. Nomination forms are available via:http://www.wtcta.org/connect/20th-annual-globes
In the last 20 years the Globe Awards became the largest annual international trade gathering in Washington State. This year the new CEO of the World Trade Center Association (WTCA), Eric Dahl, is expected to attend the awards. There are 330 World Trade Centers globally in 100 countries. The WTC Tacoma is the only full service WTC in the Pacific Northwest and it continues to have strong annual membership growth, more than quintupling its membership in the last five years. Dahl will be recognizing WTC Tacoma’s continued growth.
Hugh Carr, Chairman of the WTC Tacoma said “Connie Bacon richly deserves this award. She’s shown real trade leadership as a Port Commissioner, as a special assistant to Governor Booth Gardner and, from 1992 – 1997, as Executive Director of the WTC Tacoma. As this is the 20thanniversary of the Globe Awards there is no one more appropriate to receive this award than the person who first started it.”
