Better Business Bureau Secure Your ID Day events

Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington hosted six Secure Your ID Day events in October to securely destroy sensitive documents, recycle cellular phones, collect donations for local food banks and raise awareness about local identity theft issues.

BBB and its partners secured nearly 300 identities by shredding more than 6.5 tons of personal and financial documents—including bank statements, credit card bills and applications, and medical invoices. Also, 186 old cellular phones were collected—which will be wiped and resold or recycled to benefit domestic violence organizations across the U.S.—through Verizon’s HopeLine program.

BBB would like to thank the partners and sponsors that made these free community outreach events possible: AccuShred NW, Wells Fargo, Shred Alaska, Lakewood Ford, Datasite Northwest, Honda Auto Center of Bellevue, American Data Guard, LeMay Mobile Shredding, Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank, Pacific Alarm Systems and McClain Insurance Services.
