Buckley is becoming known for its second-hand stores and the newest shop to dovetail into the category is The Robin’s Nest, which specializes in horse tack, furniture, clothes, hats, jewelry, guitars, model train sets, collectables and just about everything else under the sun.

Running the show is Robin Larimer, who also runs R & R Stables, a horse-boarding facility in Bonney Lake.

Larimer explained that she opted into her most recent enterprise because her doctor told her to kick things down a notch from a physical activity standpoint. Thus far, The Robin’s Nest has proven to be the perfect diversion for her energies.

“I am really happy that I have made the rent the last couple of months just off sales out of the shop,” Larimer said, adding that word of her thrift store has already spread as far as Seattle. She has a couple of regular customers who are willing to make the trek from the Emerald City.

Larimer said she always wanted to have a shop of her own, if for no other reason than to store all the items she has acquired at garage sales, estate sales, yard sales, moving sales, thrift stores and second-hand stores during the past couple of decades.

While customers might wonder if Larimer is bothered the competition in town, she said the opposite is true – that the various stores combine to present more of a united front.

“We plug one another’s businesses all the time,” offered Larimer, “and in time we are hoping that Buckley becomes the Cle Elum of the west side of the mountains or a curio destination. The optimal scenario being that folks traveling around the Mount Rainier Scenic Byway Loop will make Buckley a regular stop when in search of interesting collectables and antiques.”

Larimer also handles consignment items for people, taking a percentage of whatever the articles end up fetching, often earning her commission by putting items on Craigslist and eBay.

Larimer hopes to eventually be open seven days a week operation, but for now the shop’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
