After years of putting together floral arrangements in her Enumclaw-area home, Sandy Dubsky is moving An Occasion Flowers downtown, renting a corner of space at City Perk, 1616 Cole St.

Dubsky, who has been creating European-inspired floral designs for weddings, special affairs and business events more than 14 years, is looking forward to the visibility a downtown shop can provide. Dubsky enjoys sharing her love of flowers with people and having a shop in the heart of Enumclaw will allow her that opportunity.

“I love to arrange flowers in front of people instead of doing them in a back room somewhere,” she said. “It takes the mystery out of arranging. It also gives me an opportunity to talk with people about flowers.”

That interaction with her clients has always been a part of Dubsky’s business. She prides herself on service above and beyond and doing things “the old-fashioned way.” For example, she said, she enjoys those times when a family will bring in an heirloom vase for her to create an arrangement around. She also cuts her flowers under water to help them stay fresh longer.

“It takes longer to do that, but to me it’s worth it,” she said.

Dubsky also has a master gardener on her staff that can answer questions and eventually she’d like to offer classes.

An Occasion Flowers also provides wire service for those wishing to send arrangements and rentals that include arbors and cake stands.
