Saturday, Intent Yoga owner Jean Hoiland opened the door of her latest studio at 1749 Cole St.

“I like being downtown,” she said.

After nearly five years at the former J.J. Smith Building, Hoiland recently signed on to lease, with an option to purchase, the 6,000-square-foot building vacated by Plateau Outreach Ministries, in the heart of downtown Enumclaw.

She and crew have been turning the well-used building into a yoga studio and rental office space.

Most of the extensive renovation has been on the upper floor of the two-story building. Work will continue downstairs to turn it into a second yoga studio, juice bar and retail space. The upstairs yoga space will also be available to rent for small gatherings on weekends. For more information, call 360-825-8282.

The downtown location and the graduation of a recent class of Washington state certified instructors will allow Intent Yoga to offer more classes at a broader range of times, as well as yoga for home-school students midday.

“Everybody can do yoga,” Hoiland said. “We’ll have something for everyone.”

The public is invited to an open house from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22, where there will be 12-straight hours of yoga classes to participate in or watch. The day also will include studio tours, an opportunity to meet instructors, refreshments, introductory specials and the movie “The Fire of Yoga.”

Hoiland said she’s been getting a lot of help with her remodeling project, especially from The Recyclers, which fits the studio’s “green” philosophy.

Kurt Mattioda collects unwanted items – pots, silverware, bed frames, lawn furniture, hot water heaters – that would generally go to a landfill and gives them new life by reusing or recycling. The Recyclers’ mission is to reduce the amount of waste in landfills.
