Illustrator Erik Brooks made a special guest appearance March 3 and 4 at Black Diamond Elementary School. The Winthrop-based Brooks was the second children’s author the Black Diamond PTA has sponsored to work with students and staff. Brooks has written and illustrated books like “The Practically Perfect Pajamas” and “Octavius Bloom and the House of Doom.”

“He writes and illustrates amazing picture books,” noted Black Diamond teacher Sara Davis, who helped arrange Brooks’ visit.

Brooks spoke to students during a morning assembly and then worked with students in their classrooms all day. Friday, he presented class workshops, autographed books and met with teachers during their Professional Learning Communities time.

“He is a really interesting guy who does an amazing job teaching drawing to the kids,” Davis said. Brooks is the final author in the school’s series which will culminate April 21 with the Young Authors Fair, where students will showcase their published books.
