The annual Rainier School Local No. 491 Of Washington State Employees food drive was a success with 3,146 nonperishable food items recently delivered to the Buckley Kiwanis Food Bank.

Auto shop employee Karl Last loaded up his truck with 1,151 food items – the most items collected. The commissary was runner-up with 936 items collected.

The food bank distributed the donation to needy families within the White River School District.

Sherry Hewitt, Local 491 treasurer, who e-mailed the report to The Courier-Herald, said the volunteers at the food bank were not only appreciative but surprised by the large volume of the donations that will fill the bank’s shelves.
