Seattle violinist Geoffrey Castle fearlessly brings the violin back to the center stage with performances on acoustic and six-string electric violins for the city of Enumclaw’s Evenings on the Plateau series.

Castle was recently featured with Enumclaw’s local Taco Time store in a national ad campaign. Viewers have seen him on TV and now have the opportunity to hear him perform Feb. 14 at the Enumclaw Expo Center fieldhouse.

Castle’s career includes time spent as a street musician in New York City, performing in the Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning “M. Butterfly” with Tony Randall, playing with entertainers like Blues Traveler, Jimmy Buffet, Alan White, Buddy Miles, Roger Fisher, Mike Derosier and Ann and Nancy Wilson.

Combining state-of-the-art technology and the stage presence of a magician, Castle has created the sound and the power of a full band in front of audiences from Alaska to Aguascalientes, Mexico. This new approach to performance led to the recording of his first solo CD, “Mist on the Mountain.”

According to his Web site, changing the public’s perception of what is possible on the violin has long been a theme of Castle’s career and it has led him to take challenging bookings including assembly and workshop performances in elementary, junior high and high schools, and even the occasional maximum security facility. Some of his community outreach exploits have been documented on sites like the National Endowment for the Arts Web site.

Evenings on the Plateau ticket prices have been the same for seven years. Grants from 4Culture and support from the city of Enumclaw, The Courier-Herald, Puget Sound Energy Foundation and Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Group make that possible.

For the Castle concert, desserts will be available by pre-sale, pie $5 and fudge $5. Café Panini’s “Pie Goddess” is creating the pies and local Sweet Necessities is concocting the fudge.

March 14, the Harmony Kings return by popular demand.

A schedule of all the Evenings on the Plateau performances can be found by visiting www.cityofenumclaw.net/localevents.htm.

Tickets prices are $14 for adults and $11 for those 18 and younger or 65 and older. For tickets and information, call 360-825-3594.
