Dinner aids BASK

Terry and Talayna Worth are hosting a fundraising dinner for the Black Diamond Community Center’s Before and After School Kids (BASK) program Saturday at the Black Diamond Eagles, 32618 Railroad Ave.
Talayna Worth said their 8-year-old son attends the after school program and they absolutley love Helen Bittner who runs the program. “She does such amazing things for the children and we could not think of a better way to thank her than giving her the money we raise to use for the program,” Worth said.
The evening will start with grilled Willapa Bay oysters on the half shell and cocktails between 5 to 6 p.m., followed by smoked, baby back ribs from Black Diamond’s Frank’s Meats, corn on the cob, cowboy baked beans, coleslaw and cornbread from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Raffles, music and dancing to a live band close out the evening’s festivities.
The event is open to the public. The cost is $12 per person, first-come, first-served, with all proceeds benefitting the BASK program.
BASK is the center’s licensed low-cost childcare program for children grades kindergarten through six at the Black Diamond Elementary School. Black Diamond Community Center staff provide a variety of educational and recreational activities for the kids – games, arts and crafts, science projects. Summer hours are 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and youth need to bring lunches. Fees are on a sliding scale with discounts are available for multi-children families on the free or reduced lunch program through the Enumclaw School District.
