Marina Graham and Catherine Kirschbaum of Sirius 4-H Club praised Jack Russell terrier Christian for his speed in the first round of the dog race during King County 4-H Dog Project state qualifying at Argus Ranch Facility for Dogs. Participants are hoping to move on to September's state fair in Puyallup. For four days, about 70 kids age 5 to recent high school graduates, representing 10 clubs from across King County, competed in obedience, dog races, showmanship, grooming and knowledge, at the facility along the Green River at the bottom of Whitney Hill outside Enumclaw. This is the first year the event has been staged at the Argus Ranch facilities. Local clubs like Pups at Play, Sirius and Show Me Canines were present. Argus Ranch, the largest dog training facility in western Washington, provided a good location for the event. "This facility gives our King County kids free agility lessons every Saturday," said King County 4-H Superintendent Julie Gorveatt. "They've been very 4-H."
