Log Show for kids Saturday

Plateau youngsters have been honing their logging skills for this year’s Buckley Junior Log Show’s big weekend, and it won’t be long until more than 100 young participants can show how much they have improved over the last 12 months.

The Junior Log Show gets under way at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Buckley Log Show grounds on River Road.

Early events will include the wooden ax toss, choker setting, rope climb, horizontal block chop and tree climbing.

The aspiring loggers will be able to enjoy ice cream throughout the day and there will a penny scramble for children 3 through 12 years of age during intervals in the morning hours. Watch out for Timberrr the clown though, as the word is out that he has quite a sweet tooth and isn’t afraid to join in on the fun.

The “penny scramble,” where quarters and candy are blended in with several scattered bales of hay, will be sponsored by the Wilkeson Eagles.

The show will wind down with the log rolling competition, always a favorite event, especially on a hot June day. This classification is opened to age groups from 9- and 10-year-olds to 15- to 17-year-olds.
