BENEATH THE STONE

I find myself wondering

What am I doing

Sitting here writing

What is life all about

Where am I going

And what shall be my final end

When and where

Will it all happen

Or shall I go on a while

As I am now

Pushing one day

Into another

Looking for some reason

For it all

Or am I doomed to

Wile away the years

Until time takes me

In its enveloping embrace

And lays me down to rest

Beneath the stone

That holds me down forever

FIRST OF ALL

Are you first of all a woman

Do you comprehend

What I’m asking

Or has the question

Overgone your head

Have you accepted

The biological fact

Of your birthright

On this earth

Your right to be you

Be proud

Of what you are

Not second best to anyone

But first unto yourself

Realizing all things

Are possible to you

To be whatever you wish

Any vocation you choose

Not to compete with men

But rather to be accepted

As a woman leading

Among men
