Pleased with decision to protect young eagles | Letter

We have to congratulate most neighbors of Enumclaw’s newest bald eagle nest near the Expo center. After the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service notified many of us who live near the nest of it’s existence, most complied with the “no fireworks” restrictions over the Fourth of July holiday.

This nest is new, and has been built over the past year. About 75 days ago two eaglets hatched. They are due to fly from the nest any day. With a few exceptions, the area immediately surrounding the nest was devoid of the concussive explosions that blanketed the rest of the Plateau over the holiday.

Kudos also, to the city of Enumclaw for moving the city’s fireworks show to the soccer fields west of town. Their response to the short notice request to move the show in order to protect the eagles was both professional and highly commendable.

What better way to celebrate our country’s independence than to protect the very symbol that represents us. Bald eagles mate for life and return to the same nest year after year, so again, congratulations to those of you who helped save the eagles. Let’s continue to protect them in the years that follow.
