Enumclaw artist Nancy Cary presents “From Cumberland to South Prairie” at the city of Enumclaw’s Gallery 2011. The exhibit continues through May 3.

According to Enumclaw Cultural Programs Manager Gary LaTurner, Cary has found her own way of documenting Enumclaw and the surrounding sites in vibrant oil paintings. She is a dedicated painter who expresses her thoughtful and energetic insights into each or her paintings, he said.

“These are paintings of the beautiful surrounding area,” Cary said in a press release. “My goal is to paint the entire plateau from South Prairie to Cumberland. My favorite subjects are vistas, landscapes, gardens and architecture.”

She works on 10-inch by 8-inch canvas in oils, using a palette knife and brush.

“There is no preliminary drawing, but instead, I use the knife to block in shapes and colors, and the brush for touch-up and/or detail,” she said. “Each finished painting is a unique interpretation of what I see in my own creative way.”

City Hall Entryway Display Case

Ed Konvalin’s pottery will be presented in the entry way display case at City Hall through May 31.

“Art has been a predominate influence throughout my education and I’ve spent 30 years pursuing various interests in arts and crafts,” Konvalin said in a press release. “In 2000, I rediscovered a passion for creating hand-crafted functional pottery. As this interest blossomed into a serious endeavor, I established a small home studio in western Washington.”

Konvalin creates high-quality, handcrafted stoneware pottery, with the goal of providing attractive and functional items for people to use and enjoy in their everyday lives.

“I draw my inspiration from the diverse colors and textures that abound in the Pacific Northwest,” he said. “As a creator of functional pottery, I find the greatest satisfaction in people’s enjoyment and use of each created object.”

Konvalin’s work has been shown at various venues throughout Washington’s Puget Sound and California’s San Francisco Bay areas.

The gallery is open from 8 a. m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. The gallery is closed to the public Tuesdays for municipal court proceedings. For information, call the Enumclaw Cultural Programs office at 360-802-0239.
