The city of Enumclaw’s Gallery 2009 presents “Natural Bounty” by artist Jean Stanley Oct. 7 through Nov. 3.

Stanley is an Enumclaw artist whose paintings are inspired by nature’s bounty, city of Enumclaw Cultural Programs Manager Gary LaTurner said.

“As a representational artist Jean relies on nature and the objects around us to create interesting and colorful compositions,” he said.

In a press release from the city, Stanley, a resident of Enumclaw for more than 40 years, comments on her own background and motivation.

“I was the art director-consultant for my husband’s plastics business, creating such products as decorative and structural items for the Alaska Ferry System, Seattle World’s Fair and numerous other items for homes, offices, and businesses. Now, having time to paint, I enjoy producing paintings that show joy for nature, people and still life,” she said.

“I live within 50 miles of Mount Rainier which affords me many beautiful scenes for landscape paintings,” she continued. “The area is breathtaking and spiritually inspiring. Light and shadows, colors which change with the seasons and time of day beg to be painted. It is the joy of God’s creation there to share in paint and canvas.”

In addition to the City Hall gallery, her exhibits include the Enumclaw Green River College Gallery, the Enumclaw King County Fair, Enumclaw Art Walk, Kent Covenant Church art show, BaseCamp 2008, the Covington City Hall Gallery and the Bittersweet Restaurant in Kent. Her paintings are also in private collections in Washington, California, Oregon and Hawaii. She has completed several commissioned paintings during the past year.

A reception to meet the artist is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 9 at City Hall.

Gallery 2009 is in the council chambers at Enumclaw City Hall, 1339 Griffin Ave. Hours for the exhibition space are 8 a. m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesday of each week for municipal court proceedings. Two more exhibits remain for Gallery 2009. An equestrian exhibit is planned for November and Enumclaw’s Ken and Lydia Strange will close out the year with their work in December.
