How Do lunar rovers work?| Ask Dr. Universe

When I got your question, I started to imagine what it would be like to drive a rover on the moon. As we bounced along craters, we could kick up moon dust and stop to gather samples of moon rock.

Do extraordinary things through ordinary tasks

On June 12, my Sunday began like every other Sunday. The alarm went off at 6 a.m., followed by my habitual tap of the snooze button.

Our external freedoms cannot free us inwardly

Imperfectly implemented and often tragically late in arriving, nevertheless, the freedom for which our country is known is a rare thing in world history and has often inspired (and sometimes pressured) other nations to follow suit. Consider, for instance, both that monumental “thumbs up” from France that stands in New York’s harbor and, at another end of the spectrum, the fact that Saudi Arabia finally granted women the right to vote only seven months ago.

What is the deepest spot in the ocean?| Dr. Universe

Deep underwater, not too far from Guam, lies a crescent-shaped canyon called the Mariana Trench. It is home to the deepest known spot in the ocean: the Challenger Deep.

Breaking down relationship barriers in French Film | Point of Review

We all build walls around ourselves. Sometimes we build these walls because it can be healthy to compartmentalize different parts of our lives. But these walls can just as often hold us back or even harm us, or the people around us. We can become so concentrated on what is inside our walls that we are blind to what happens outside of them.

It is a good thing that we have a good gardening column in The Courier-Herald with the capable Marianne Binetti giving us good advice. I usually consider myself a pretty good gardener and certainly not a beginner, but I am flunking hanging baskets! I received a really beautiful basket from my kids for Mother's Day and it is in very sad shape. The hot weather has taken its toll; the flowers are sagging and the leaves are wilting. Well, you get the picture.

My ears perked right up when I got your question. Like you, I’ve heard the sounds crispy rice cereal makes. But the truth is, I wasn’t entirely sure why it happens. There was only one way to find out.

Don’t be so quick to judge your dandelions | Church Corner

This year, spring began with my front lawn studded with countless dandelions adding color to my struggling grass. Now, thinking about those dandelions, I am reminded of one of my favorite parables of Jesus: "The Weeds and the Wheat."

Goal is to keep trees, shrubs looking natural

Now that the fruit trees have been pruned and are beginning to excite you about the summer and fall harvests, it is time to think about the ornamental shrubs and trees. Most will complete their new growth between now and mid to late June. As a result, some of your landscape plants may need a summer haircut.
