Black Diamond Elementary School PTA will host the first Family Fitness Day April 2 at the school’s ball field.

The event will feature Teddy Herrera, 24, from Elk Grove, Calif., who is completing an 11,000-mile bike ride across the United States on behalf of Across America for Childhood Obesity. Herrera will present an assembly to students Friday and again Saturday at the event. The Family Fitness event involves an obstacle run/walk for all ages.

The event will take place between 9 a.m. and noon with a 9:15 a.m. kickoff/group stretch and prizes at 11:30. For information or to participate, contact Heather Invie-Notch at invie.notch@gmail.com or 253-797-2850.

“With no prior cycling experience, AAforCO’s founder and president Teddy Herrera departed his hometown of Elk Grove June 5, 2010, on an 11,000-mile, 21-city bicycle tour to raise awareness for childhood obesity. His mission is to demonstrate to children of all sizes that through determination, perseverance and dedication anything is possible – when you make the decision to do it, step out your front door and do it.

Community members can follow Herrera on Facebook at Across American for Childhood Obesity; on Twitter at www.twitter.com/onepedalatatime or on his website acrossamericaforchildhoodobesity.wordpress.com.
