Tuberculosis (TB) remains an ongoing threat in King County, where the first local case of extremely drug resistant TB was identified in 2011. New data released by Public Health – Seattle & King County to mark World TB Day shows that in 2011 more than 100 people in King County were diagnosed with active TB, including the one person with extremely drug resistant TB.

More than 124,000 students in six school districts are benefitting from improved school food and physical activity, 49 stores in low-income neighborhoods are offering healthier options like fruits and vegetables, and 13,000 affordable housing units are now smoke-free – all as a result of a two-year King County partnership with cities, schools, and organizations to create healthier communities.

The inaugural Roundball at the Rock charity basketball event for the Rotary First Harvest, staged at Bonney Lake High School Saturday, is officially in the archives. With the help of about 100 people – including, fans, coaches, players, volunteers and financial supporters – the program went off without a hitch and was a success.
