The people of the Plateau never cease to amaze me. The giving that goes on in our communities is second to none.

Friday evening, the Enumclaw Regional Healthcare Foundation hosted its annual Holiday Fantasy Dinner and Auction at Emerald Downs in Auburn. As a board member I can assure you we were all concerned about how the economy would affect the auction and the funds raised during the evening of holiday fun.

Dec 09 2008, 2:09 AM The holidays are a time for most people to enjoy family and social events, but for those of us elected or re-elected to the state Legislature our time is consumed with preparing for the session that begins on Jan. 12. Considering the budget outlook, it’s no surprise that most of the comments I’ve heard from folks around town is them being sympathetic about the difficulty of the task facing legislators as they write the new two-year budget.

Restaurant owners show appreciation with free meal
Dec 15 2008, 9:11 PM During this time of year, some business people are moved to give back to the community in response to the good fortune their customers’ loyalty has brought them. Gary and Sarina Zesiger, owners of T-Bonz Steak House in downtown Enumclaw, are among them.

They will close their restaurant to the general public Sunday, prepare a holiday feast and serve it to five less-fortunate Plateau families.

Cold winter weather smacks region
Dec 15 2008, 9:11 PM A cold front hit the area Friday night leaving snow, ice and plunging temperatures in its wake.

Snow accumulations on the Plateau ranged from trace amounts to nearly three inches. Wind gust of 25 to 30 mph made the 25 degree temperatures feel considerably colder.

Pierce County road crews were out beginning Friday and worked through the weekend. According to official reports a full crew and equipment including 26 plows, seven anti-icer trucks, three graders, six loader operators and mechanics at the dispatch locations worked on Pierce County roads until midnight Sunday.

• A bail bondsman surrendered a subject Dec. 11 to Enumclaw authorities. The woman was wanted on a King County felony warrant and Enumclaw police agreed to hold her until county deputies could pick her up.
