A large gathering enjoyed the Black Diamond Miners Day celebration Saturday. The acitivities included a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of Railroad Road Avenue. The street has new pavement, sidewalks, lamp posts and an historic appearance.

The Black Diamond City Council has been wrestling with the permit applications for two master planned developments, The Villages and Lawson Hills, for more than two weeks. The members began deliberations July 19 and have been working through the issues surrounding the developments including storm water, noise, fiscal impacts, traffic and density.

After weeks of deliberations, debate and discussion the Black Diamond City Council unanimously voted to approve, with conditions, the master planned developments The Villages and Lawson Hills. The Tuesday evening vote directs the City Attorney, Bob Sterbank, to draft an ordinance with conditions for the two YarrowBay developments. Sterbank will present the document to the council at a closed-record hearing scheduled for Sept. 14.

Elderly woman stabbed and killed in Black Diamond Friday, 50-year-old son in arrested

The Black Diamond Police Department reported an 86-year-old woman, Ella May Walker, was stabbed to death Friday afternoon in the 25000 block of Morgan Street. The woman’s 50-year-old son, Cecil Douglas Walker, was arrested for allegedly committing first degree murder, domestic violence in the death of his mother.

The final moments of Ella Walker’s life were part of a sad, serious and troubling crime. The 86-year-old mother and grandmother was stabbed to death while sitting in her chair at her home in Black Diamond. Her 50-year-old son, Cecil Douglas Walker, is alleged to have committed the crime and has been charged with first degree murder, domestic violence.

Cecil Douglas Walker has been charged by the King County Prosecutor with murder in the first degree, domestic violence, for the Aug. 27 stabbing death of his 86-year-old mother. The 50-year-old Walker is accused of using a knife – with a blade of approximately 12 inches – to kill Ella May Walker while she sat in a recliner at the Black Diamond home they shared.
