'97 Enumclaw grad completes Army course

Capt. Shaun P. Kelley completed the U.S. Army Combined Logistics Captains Career Course at the Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Va. This course prepares officers for assignment to command and staff planning positions in Army battalions, brigades and staff positions within and above corps level. Following graduation, he will be assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y., and will serve in a planning position in the 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Combat Team. Kelley and wife, Sandra, have two children; Sven and Seena. He is a 1997 graduate of Enumclaw High School and Southern University Illinois. His parents are Ed and Barbara Kelley of Fall City, Wash.

Black Diamond man charged in death of mother, trial begins Monday

A 42-year-old Black Diamond resident, Christopher Wise, has been charged with two counts of domestic violence manslaughter in the 2009 death of his 88-year-old mother, Ruby Wise. The King County Prosecutor' Office charged Christopher Wise with first-degree manslaughter, domestic violence and second-degree manslaughter/domestic violence. Wise pleaded not guilty April 2 in King County Superior Court. His attorney asked for the April 12 trail to be continued to a later date. The judge denied the motion.

Football: White River’s Madden to play in East-West All-Star football game

White River High’s Michael Madden was selected to play in the 4A/3A East-West All-Star football game. The game is slated for 1 p.m. June 26 at Everett’s Memorial Stadium. The wide receiver/defensive back will suit up for the East squad.

Teen charged with vehicular manslaughter in Buckley rollover crash

A young woman was charged March 30 for her role in a Buckley automobile accident that left one person dead and two injured. Pierce County prosecutors charged Kaitlin Rose Baumgartner, 18, with one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault. Her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.

Veterans want ideas for memorial park in Enumclaw; meeting April 13

Enumclaw annexation is topic of Wednesday public meeting

A healthy list of questions has cropped up as Enumclaw addresses its first annexation proposal in years. To help clear the air, the city has planned a public meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the public library. City representatives will be on hand to discuss the annexation process in general, tax implications and zoning. There also may be talk about the cost of services like water, sewer and garbage collection, plus police and fire protection. And a major sticking point for some residents is the keeping of livestock, which also is on the agenda.

King County Assessor will talk taxes April 15 in Enumclaw

FAKE IDENTIFICATION: While assisting a Liquor Control Board representative at approximately 8 p.m. March 26 at a Railroad Street business, an officer contacted a subject believed to be a minor in possession of both alcohol and a false license. The suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody the following morning at his home.

DRUG PARAPHERNALIA: At 1:53 a.m. Thursday, a vehicle was stopped for speeding near the upper cemetery. The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana and read the driver his constitutional rights. The driver handed over a smoking device and allowed the officer to search his vehicle. Green vegetable matter was all over his chest and lap. The officer suspected the driver ate the matter to avoid its discovery. He was issued a citation and notice of infraction and released on scene.

Enumclaw Aquatic Center to host April Pool's Day safety event
