BUCKLEY LOG SHOW: Check out the parade, vendors before the show

The 38th annual Buckley Log Show will add some spark to the city Saturday and Sunday.

The Log Show Parade, which will kick off the proceedings, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and travel west down Main Street.

Before Log Show fans then migrate toward the competition grounds, during the two-hour interlude between the parade and the logging competition, they may want to stroll down River Road, where 60-plus vendors are slated to appear. Included is a carnival, complete with rides for the kids.

Attention will then shift to the Log Show grounds where – before the contests begin – there will be a coin and candy scramble for youngsters in three age groups.

The main event gets under way at noon with the initial competition of the day, the speed climb. It will be followed by obstacle bucking, the horizontal block chop, choker setting, double bucking, ax throw, splicing, hot saw limited and modified hot saw.

After the modified hot saw exhibition, fans may want to engage in a brief lunch break as that is when contestants will take a breather.

Food will be available at the nearby snack shack, which, as always, will be staffed by the Buckley Firefighters Association. Next door, suds will be flowing at the beer garden.

Finals for most events will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday. Also, there will be some Sunday-only events, like the wrapper toss and log rolling.
