Back to school for GRCC Enumclaw
It’s back to school for college students, too, and in Enumclaw that means Green River Community College is opening its doors.
According to GRCC Enumclaw’s Diane Anderson, students have been filing through the doors since they opened Aug. 16.
As part of the college’s budget reductions, the Enumclaw campus was closed for six weeks this summer. The closure was designed to be a one-time summer quarter closure the college does not have plans to repeat.
Registration for fall classes is under way. The Enumclaw campus is open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. When classes begin Sept. 19, the site will be open until 8 p.m.
The Enumclaw Campus provides most of the same services available on the main campus in Auburn. Students can complete the application/admissions process, do Compass and placement testing, academic advising, Running Start, and completion of all registration and cashiering processes at the localsite.
The facility features six classrooms, including a community computer lab. The campus offers both pre-college and college level courses in business education, computers, English, humanities, math, science, social science and physical education. In addition Adult Basic Education and GED preparation classes are offered. Credit course offerings number between 25 and 30 classes per quarter.
The site also offers various noncredit classes to meet students’ needs for development of job related skills or personal enrichment. On average, 50 noncredit classes are offered on a quarterly basis.
A sampling of fall quarter classes includes: How To Start A Successful Business, Barista Training, iPad For Beginners, Promoting Your Business Using Facebook, Quickbooks, Computers For Beginners, Drawing, Watercolor, Jewelry Design, Dance, Cupcakes, Floral Design, Guitar, Fly Fishing and Creative Writing and more. Many of these courses are taught by local community members.
Individual and no-cost counseling through Green River’s Small Business Assistance Center is available on site in Enumclaw at scheduled times to serve local business and community needs.
In addition, campus classrooms are also available for rent to local community groups and organizations for their meeting needs.
