DDES changes name, moves from Renton to Snoqualmie

King County's Department of Development and Environmental Services has moved from Renton and changed its name.

The county's land-use agency is now known as the King County Department of Permitting and Environmental Review. Its new headquarters is in Snoqualmie, off of Interstate 90.

The department moved over the weekend from its headquarters on Oakesdale Avenue Southwest. Before moving to Renton, the department was in Bellevue's Eastgate area.

King County Executive Dow Constantine will issue one of the first building permits at the new office on Tuesday morning. The office opens for business at 7:30 a.m.

According to the county, the move from its long-time office in Renton is part of the county's two-year effort to improve customer service in the department and bring its headquarters closer to its rural customer base.

Annexations and incorporations have reduced the service area for the department, which provides permits for residents of the unincorporated areas.

The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The office is at 35030 S.E. Douglas St., Suite 210. To get there take I-90 Exit 25 north onto Snoqualmie Parkway and turn right onto Southeast Douglas Street.
