The Black Diamond change of government Proposition No. 1 is going down by nearly 20 percent in early results according to the King County Election website.

The measure asked whether the city should change from a strong mayor form of government to a council-manager.

Currently the no vote is head 59.25 percent by 40.75 for yes.

The city has been a strong mayor form since incorporation in the 1950s.

Mayor Rebecca Olness said by phone following the results, "The city has been a strong mayor form since incorporation in the 1950s. I think the citizens of Black Diamond have affirmed this form of government has worked for 53 years and it is certainly what we need. I am thrilled. I really am and I am pleased the citizens have listened to reason."

Proposition No. 1

Change in the Plan of Government

The City of Black Diamond currently operates as a Mayor-Council plan of government under the provisions of RCW Chapter 35A.12 with an elected mayor as chief executive. Shall the City of Black Diamond abandon its present Mayor-Council plan of government and adopt in its place the Council-Manager plan of government under the provisions of RCW Chapter 35A.13 with an appointed city manager as chief executive?
