East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters and Sumner Police officers responded to a vehicle that had veered off Main Street into a building at the Fred Meyer Shopping Center in the 15000 block of Main Street in Sumner. The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Sumner Police, the driver was an 18-year-old male, who reported that he was driving westbound on Main Street when he became distracted after spilling his coffee. The vehicle crashed through the Verizon Wireless store, ending up inside the HairMasters salon.

Firefighters evaluated the driver, a Sumner resident, who was out of his vehicle when they arrived. He did not sustain any injuries in the single-vehicle crash.

The scene is now cleared and the Sumner Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
