Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler fines insurers, agents more than $800,000

Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler issued the following fines and enforcement actions totaling close to $800,000 from April 10 to Dec. 10, 2013:

Companies or other entities that were fined more than $50,000:

  • Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, fined $150,000
  • National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA, fined $60,000
  • Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (U.S.), fined $50,000
  • Hartford Accident And Indemnity Company, Hartford Casualty Insurance Company,
  • Hartford Insurance Company Of The Midwest, Trumbull Insurance Company; fined $100,000

Kreidler’s office oversees Washington’s insurance industry to ensure that companies, agents and brokers abide by state laws. From 2001 through 2013, Kreidler's office has issued more than $14 million in fines.
