The city of Bonney Lake will be hosting a pep rally for Melainie Roach at 11 a.m. Saturday at Allan Yorke Park.
The community is welcome to come and show their support for Melanie Roach, the No. 1 ranked U.S. female weightlifter
Melanie was poised to make her Olympic debut in 2000. At the time she was the No. 1 ranked U.S. weightlifter and the first one in history to clean and jerk more than twice her body weight.
Weeks before the Olympic trials competition Melanie suffered a serious back injury. Her Olympic dreams, along with any future in the sport appeared to be suddenly over.
In the summer of 2005, Melanie decided that it's never too late to pursue your dreams. She returned to competitive weightlifting. She underwent back surgery and the result was her seventh U.S. National Championship in 2007 and the first time since 2000 she clean and jerked twice her own body weight.
