Changes are on the horizon for The Courier-Herald, reflecting both the evolution of the newspaper industry as well as the new association with Sound Publishing Inc.

The most dramatic change will happen with The Bonney Lake Courier-Herald, the sister publication of the Enumclaw Courier-Herald.

Beginning with the Aug. 6 edition, the publication will begin covering Sumner and the paper will become The Bonney Lake/Sumner Courier-Herald.

The Courier-Herald newspapers were purchased by Sound Publishing June 3. After the purchase was complete, Sound decided to merge its Sumner publication, The Sumner Reporter, with the Bonney Lake Courier-Herald. The Sumner Reporter has been publishing for about one year. The Bonney Lake Courier-Herald has been published for nearly five years.

Shawn Skager, from The Sumner Reporter, will move to the Courier-Herald office in Enumclaw and cover Sumner news and events.

The Courier-Herald will cover the news, features and sports for Bonney Lake, Sumner and Lake Tapps plus the surrounding areas of unincorporated Pierce County.

Another noticeable change will be on the editorial page. Both Courier-Herald newspapers will begin publishing syndicated columnist John Carlson in place of Adele Ferguson.

The B Section will feature a new section titled “Community Clicks.” We will be asking folks from the community to contribute their pictures for the page, which will also include photos by newspaper staffers.

The Community Click page will be published the first Wednesday of each month in place of Our Town in Bonney Lake and Art Focus in Enumclaw.

The stories from Arts and the Our Town section will still be in the paper as regular features.

Another change for both papers is the name of the senior section, which is published third week of the month.

The section will now be called Life Waves.
