The Bonney Lake City Council approved the mayor's appointment of Al Juarez as the city's new chief financial officer.

The council voted unanimously Sept. 18 to confirm Juarez to the position.

Juarez was the Paulsbo, Wash., finance director from 2005 until taking the Bonney Lake job. He was the finance operations manager for the city of Shoreline, Wash., from 1998 to 2005.

From 1987 to 1998 Juarez was senior accountant for the city of Olympia.

He earned his master's degree in business administration from City University in December 2006.

Juarez replaces Beth Ann Wroe, who took a job as finance operations director with the city of Sumner in July.

Wroe came in near the beginning of Mayor Neil Johnson's term in 2005 after John Weidenfeller, the finance director for former Mayor Bob Young, resigned at the close of Young's term.

Wroe changed the city's financial system to a biennial budget and is credited with working more closely with department heads.
