The Bonney Lake Police Department's “Giving Tree” has sprouted for the 16th year.

The program, spearheaded by Barb Wiglet, collects toys for children in need around the area and distributes them in time for Christmas.

Wiglet said interested individuals can bring unwrapped toys to the police department, found at the Public Safety Building, 18421 Sumner-Buckley Highway.

A person interested in donating may also choose a child from the Giving Tree posted on the wall in the department's lobby and give to that child.

Wiglet said she hopes to receive all presents by Dec. 18, which gives the department elves time to wrap and distribute gifts in time for Christmas.

Along with the Giving Tree toy drive, the department also has a food drive for seniors in need.

People can bring non-perishable food items to the department or gifts for the giving tree from 8:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
