No one was injured Friday afternoon when a Pierce County woman accidentally drove a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer into Lake Tapps at Allan Yorke Park.

Jami Wilkins, 30, said she and her fiance, Eric Moulden, drove out on to the floating dock at the park's boat launch for a "mental break" when the right front wheel slid on the wet wood and dropped off the dock, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side.

"There was nothing I could do," Wilkins said.

Matt Campbell, 11, Kurtis Smith, 12, Brad Tomatich, 13, and David Campbell, 13, were riding their bikes in the park when they saw the blazer fall off the dock.

"We just dropped our bikes and started running," David Campbell said.

The boys helped the couple, both dressed in pajamas, and their dog get out of the car and called 9-1-1.

The car, owned by Moulden's brother, landed in several inches of water and mud and was pulled out of the lake by East Pierce Fire and Rescue's water rescue team.

According to Officer Rob Kearney, the Blazer suffered significant damage to the passenger side and was impounded.

Rod Rinesmith of Spokane stopped in the parking lot to enjoy the lake when he saw the Blazer come from the south of the lake. According to Rinesmith, Wilkins drove around him and onto the dock at a high rate of speed.

Police do not believe alcohol was involved in the accident, though Wilkins was cited for reckless driving.

East Pierce installed booms around the accident site to prevent oil from the accident from spreading through the lake.
