Enumclaw: Through the eyes of a visitor

Enumclaw residents might know what to expect from their community, but how does the city come across to an outsider?
That's exactly what city officials and others hope to learn Tuesday night when a paid consultant presents "A Look at Enumclaw Through the Eyes of a Visitor." The session is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. at the public library, 1700 First St.
As part of an overall plan to enhance tourism, and capture the dollars found in tourist's pockets, the city put money in its 2004 budget to hire an expert in the industry. Destination Development of Olympia was paid $40,000 to study the town and make recommendations.
Destination Development staff arrived in town unannounced and spent time touring the community, visiting local businesses and talking with residents - all done anonymously.
Tuesday night's meeting, according to a city advertisement, is designed to give an unbiased view of Enumclaw's "first impressions, lasting impressions, businesses, signage, local attitude, ease of getting around, things to see and do, visitor amenities, etc."
As part of the presentation, Destination Development's Roger Brooks will provide examples of what other communities have done to attract additional tourism dollars.
Everyone is invited to the public meeting, which - according to the city - should hold particular interest for merchants, public officials and local organizations.
