VFW plans ceremonies

Members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars organization are making plans for Memorial Day ceremonies.

The VFW-sponsored ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. May 30 at Veterans Memorial Park along state Route 410 in Enumclaw. Members of the Gateway Community Band will be playing prior to the start of the ceremonies.

The event will open with a prayer by VFW Post 1949 Chaplain Orville Crawford, a retired Navy commander. Presentation of the colors will be by the Scottish Highlanders and the national anthem will be sung by Three Rasmusson. Featured speaker will be Maurice Sharp, past national commander of the Ex-Prisoners of War and currently a member of the Washington State Veterans Legislative Coalition.

The color guard will fire ceremonial rifle shots and the names of war casualties listed on memorial plaques will be read by Jack Warren, current judge advocate of the Marine Corps League, Department of Washington.

Taps will be played by Jack Prindle and closing remarks will be offered by Department of Washington Chaplain Milt Till.
