The 11 Buckley firefighters who participated in last month's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 13th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb met their goal.

The Buckley Fire Department was the first-place fund-raising team in the "department" category, which was what the firefighters were aiming for before the March 7 race to the top of the Bank of America Tower in Seattle.

The firefighters raised $17,575.14, easily beating out the rest of the competition. The second place finisher was Anchorage Fire and Rescue with $10,872.10. Third place was North Highline Fire with $6,130.11. The grand total raised was $175,000.

Two Buckley firefighters also received individual honors. Fire Chief Alan Predmore was the second-place individual fund raiser with $4,449.23 and firefighter Dean Mundy took third place honors with $4,033.73.

More than 800 firefighters from more than 130 fire departments competed in the stairclimb, which was the largest competition to date.

Proceeds from the stairclimb benefit blood cancer research and patient services programs.
