More than 30 firefighters struggled to get the upper hand on a house fire Thursday morning east of Buckley. Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue and the fire departments of Orting, Enumclaw and Buckley responded when a passerby noticed smoke coming from the two-story home at 96th Street East and 263rd Avenue East just before noon Thursday. The homeowner escaped the residence without injury. Snowy weather conditions and a lack of water supply hampered efforts to battle the blaze. Four water tenders from three area fire departments were needed to transport water to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
