Enumclaw High School graduate Hans Nelson welcomed patrons with his rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the ukulele to the Find A Way fundraiser for the Enumclaw School District’s all-day kindergarten program Sunday evening at the Enumclaw Expo Center fieldhouse. Enumclaw School Board Vice President Nancy Merrill sat and read with kindergarten students Kaetlyn Marlow from Southwood Elementary School and Ashley Crawford from Black Diamond Elementary School. The dinner-auction raised more than $50,000, which will provide scholarships for at least 20 students to attend full-day kindergarten. The district was forced to reduce its full-day kindergarten program to a tuition-based program due to the loss of funds from state Initiative 728 monies. The district will provide a half-day program, but since offering a full-day free program for the past six years, district officials wanted to continue to give those who wished a full-day option. Tuition is $250 a month for a 10-month period. - Photos by Brenda Sexton To view or buy photos go to www.courierherald.com
