One person died as a result of a single-vehicle rollover on Sumner-Buckley Highway just after 5 p.m. Saturday.

The accident occured between Mundy Loss Road and the Buckley city limits. East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded and found a full-size pickup truck in the ditch.

Two of the four occupants were ejected when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled approximately 100 feet before coming to rest on its wheels.

One of the passengers, 21-year-old Derrick A. Laiblin of Lake Tapps, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, a 17-year-old female and 20-year-old male, were transported to area trauma centers with serious injuries.

The 18-year-old driver from Enumclaw was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault by Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies. He suffered only minor injuries.
