The youth at the Enumclaw Youth Center had been trying to find a good date to pick up trash and the President’s Day holiday was the winner.

“We’ve had many good talks here in the past at EYC on what the perfect community would look like,” said the center’s Ryan Overbay. “The number one answer was always a clean one.”

Around noon Feb. 15, about 19 kids from the center grabbed gloves and plastic bags and headed to the north end of the city’s Foothill’s Trail. More than 20 large trash bags were filled. The group actually ran out of bags, Overbay said.

It took the group about an hour to cover the first half mile of trail from Battersby Avenue to 432nd Street Southeast.

“We hope to hit the trail again during spring break and to work in other parts of the community,” Overbay said.
