Mother charged in deaths of two Enumclaw brothers

Pierce County prosecutors have leveled vehicular homicide charges against the mother of two Enumclaw boys killed in a Jan. 16 automobile accident.

Two charges were filed March 16 against 41-year-old Jayme Lynn Davis, a Bonney Lake resident.

The boys – Jordan Davis, 11, and his 8-year-old brother Jared – lived in Enumclaw with their father and stepmother. Both boys attended Kibler Elementary School, Jared in the third grade and Jordan in the fifth. Their deaths brought an outpouring of sympathy during a public reception a week after their deaths; the reception was a joint effort of the Kibler Elementary School PTA, school staff and families, and Wolverines Junior Football.

According to charging papers, Davis and her children were heading home from a monster truck show at the Tacoma Dome at approximately 10:35 p.m. when Davis lost control of her 1988 Mazda 929, crossed a double yellow line, jumped a small, concrete median and crashed into a 1992 Lincoln Continental. The car was then struck broadside on the passenger side by a 1999 Toyota RAV. Charging papers allege Davis was driving under the influence of intoxicants at the time.

The impact of the accident caused the injuries to her two children, who were transported to Mary Bridge Hospital

Davis told police she was changing lanes as she headed into the curve, but her brakes failed and she entered the curve too fast.

Police ruled out mechanical failure as a cause of the crash.

According to documents from the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office, the officer who helped Davis out of her car on the night of the crash noticed "a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her mouth."

A second officer also noted a "strong smell of intoxicants" and said Davis's eyes were bloodshot and her face was flushed.

Blood taken from Davis three hours after the crash and sent to the state toxicology lab showed Davis to have a blood alcohol level of 0.07, slightly less than the state limit.

According to the documents, Davis told officers "she and her boyfriend each had a couple of beers while eating popcorn" at the show.
