Twenty-two White River High School FFA students advanced from subdistricts to districts and eventually qualified to compete at the state FFA convention May 12-16 in Pullman, Wash.

Students competed in various career development events that prepare them for success in the workplace.

“The state FFA contest is brutally competitive,” said Todd Miller, FFA adviser. The top 32 competitors from around the state are placed into four flights of eight students. From there, the top two from each flight advance to the finals to compete for a chance to represent Washington at the national competition in Indiana in October.

White River’s Greenhand team of Chelsey Toney, Christiana Ramos and Alicia Guenthner finished third among 80 teams.

Mikey Burley placed fifth in extemporaneous speaking. He also joined Kelsey Smith, Jacob Crandel, Jacob Hillius and Lindsey Nourse as part of the fifth-place agricultural issues team.

The Hornets’ agricultural sales team of Smith, Amanda Alvord, Sammi Nourse and Katiejo Clinkingbeard placed sixth.

Burley also finished eighth in job interview.

Other White River participants included: Sarah Kahout, Will Sathre, Sam Howie, Nora Gyswyt, Ajanna Russell, Mackenzie Speyer, Roan McQuillen, Elizabeth Allesina, Tayor Moyer, Kayla Letourneau and McKensey Dashotsky.
