Tim Madden is sitting in a familiar seat at the Enumclaw School District office.

The former business and operations director returned to the position recently in on an interim basis while the district searches for a replacement for Randy Stocker, who took a position as executive director for exemplary programs with the Bellevue School District.

Madden retired from the Enumclaw district in 2008. He came out of retirement to become the assistant principal at Glacier Middle School in the White River School District. That district has released him from his contract to help out Enumclaw.

Superintendent Mike Nelson said it would have been difficult to find a replacement during this critical budget time. Enumclaw is expected to release its budget, which includes nearly $1 million in reductions, in the coming weeks with a budget hearing and approval set for Aug. 16.

"He's hit the ground running," Nelson said.

Nelson said the district plans to post the permanent position in February or March.
