Mail-in ballots determining whether the city of Buckley will issue a bond for a new fire station are due April 27.

The fire station bond appears as Proposition 1 on the ballot. Ballots were sent to registered voters April 9.

Voter approval of Proposition 1 would allow the city to issue a bond for up to $5 million for construction of a fire station at 611 S. Division St. The expected amount of the bond is expected to be between $3 million and $5 million, the value of which will be paid back through property tax levies during the coming 20 to 30 years.

The terms of the bond are expected to be negotiated in the fall if the proposition is approved, Fire Chief Alan Predmore said at a March meeting of the Buckley City Council.

The project will include all necessary equipment, supplies and other important items, but won’t include the replacement of equipment. Every duty related to the project, from architecture, to administration to legal issues, actual construction and building inspection will be included in the costs of capital improvements.

A ballot drop site will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 23 to April 27 at the Fred Meyer store in Bonney Lake.
