Black Diamond library offers long list of events, activities

The Black Diamond Library has released its programs for September.

Adults

• The annual Friends of the Black Diamond Library Book Sale is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 at Baker Street Books, 32709 Railroad Ave.,

Black Diamond. Proceeds support programming at the Black Diamond Library throughout the year.

• Black Diamond Library Third Tuesday Book Group meets at 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 20.

Join library staff for a lively, thoughtful discussion. Copies of the following month’s book will be available at each book group, and then at library as long as copies are available. Refreshments provided courtesy of the Friends of the Black Diamond Library.

• Friends of the Black Diamond Library meets again at 7 p.m. Sept. 21.

This nonprofit group supports the Black Diamond Library through fundraising, sponsorship of programs and services and increasing awareness of the library’s vital community role. All are welcome.

Children and Families

• Sponsored by the Friends of Black Diamond Library, Critter Campout is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 for children ages 3 and older with an adult.

Come for a Pajama Story Time and library tour with your favorite stuffed animal then tuck your special friend in for the night and leave them at the library for a stuffed animal sleepover. Munch on a snack and juice at the Teddy Bear Brunch the next morning at 10:30 a.m. and find out what your best friend was up to at the sleepover when you receive a photograph of your stuffie’s nocturnal activity. Children need not attend the Teddy Bear Brunch to participate but must pick up their stuffed animal and photograph within one week. Younger siblings are welcome.

Registration is required. Registration begins two weeks in advance, online, by phone or at the library.

Discover Stories! Family Story Times is set for 10:30 a.m. on Mondays beginning Sept. 19 and running through Dec. 5.

All ages are welcome with an adult, childcare providers are also welcome.

Discover new stories, rhymes, flannel boards and songs in this active fun-filled, half-hour program designed to help build early literacy skills as children get ready to read.

Black Diamond After-School Book Bunch at Black Diamond Elementary begins at 3:45 p.m. Sept. 22.

The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles 1) by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black will be the book of choice. This program is designed for students ages 8 to 12, parents and siblings are welcome.

Sponsored by the Friends of Black Diamond Library, participants will munch free pizza, play games and talk about great books when you join us after school in the Black Diamond Elementary School Library. New members are always welcome. This book group is open to all, but BDE students staying after school must bring a permission slip from their grown-up on the day of book group. Parents will need to sign out their children with the Children’s librarian by 4:45 p.m.

Ready-Set-Read

Elementary school children can take the Reading Challenge. Read at least 20 minutes per day for 20 days within a month and choose a new paperback book at the library. Forms are available at the library or online.

Teens

Read Three, Get One Free

Read three books, write three short, thoughtful reviews and get a new paperback boo, free. Pick up an entry form at any KCLS library or online.
