Bonney Lake police reports March 19-23

SHOE THEFT: Police on March 19 were dispatched to the 18200 block of 84th Street East for a report of a theft. The resident reported a theft of 10 pairs of shoes valued at approximately $700. The shoe rack was located on the front porch of the house. Earlier in the morning, the homeowner was contacted by a UPS driver who noticed a pair of shoes by the mailbox, at which time the homeowner noticed the shoe rack missing. The resident provided police with the name of a suspect he believes to be involved. Police are investigating.

FOUND PROPERTY: Police on March 21 were dispatched to the 21100 block of Church Lake Drive east after a resident found on his front yard a suitcase containing clothing and the identification indicating it belonged to a neighbor. The neighbor was contacted and said he had earlier discovered his vehicle had been left unlocked. The neighbor also said his car had been moved from the driveway to the street and said it appeared someone had attempted to push the vehicle in an attempt to steal it. No other property was missing.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: Officers were dispatched to he 9500 block of 181st Avenue East where the reporting party said she heard a downstairs door close approximately one hour earlier. The resident was in the upstairs part of the house with her children when she heard a door slam. She checked the house and discovered muddy footprints coming into the residence from an exterior door. Nothing appeared missing. The resident said the doors had been left unsecured. The resident also said she waited to call police because she did not want to waste police time since the suspect was gone. Officers advised not to wait to call in the future.

POSSESSION: Police on March 20 observed a car driving more often than not with at least one wheel over the fog line and had the driver pull over. The officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the car. When asked, the driver surrendered a small, plastic bottle of marijuana. The driver was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Officers were dispatched to the Bonney lake Tavern in the early morning hours March 21 for a report of an “extremely intoxicated” individual who was stealing food off the plates of other customers and “grabbing at females.” According to the police report, officers escorted the man from the bar and he agreed to take a cab home. While waiting, police explained why they were called to the bar and the suspect became angry, insisting he had done nothing wrong and hurling epithets at the police, saying he was prepared to fight to his death and clenching his fists. He was told repeatedly he needed to sleep it off, but then balled his fists and started toward an officer. After a brief struggle, the suspect was placed under arrest, transported to Buckley Jail and booked for disorderly conduct.

HIT-AND-RUN: On March 21 officers were dispatched to the 19800 block of South Prairie Road for a report of a hit-and-run collision involving a utility pole. Witnesses followed the suspect vehicle to the Lowe’s Parking lot and reported to police the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and hit the utility pole then fled the scene. The driver was identified by witnesses. Police contacted the driver, who smelled strongly of intoxicants and looked as if she had spilled something on her shirt. According to the police report her eyes were bloodshot and watery and her speech was slurred. A voluntary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.106, above the legal limit. Further tests at the Buckley Police Department showed results at more than twice the legal limit. The driver was booked into jail and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and hit-and-run property damage. She was also issued citations for no insurance, no license on person and driving with wheels off the roadway.

SHOPLIFTING: Police on March 22 were dispatched to the JB Mini Mart on Sumner-Buckley Highway for a shoplifting incident in progress. The store clerk observed a female stuff several bags of candy into her pants and then leave the store without paying. Police located the vehicle and contacted the driver who at first said she did know why she was being arrested and then, before the officer could ask any questions, said “The candy is in the car.” She added, “I have no money and I really needed some gummy worms. Times are tough.” The stolen merchandise was found in the back seat. The suspect was transported to the Buckley jail and booked for third-degree shoplifting.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Police on March 23 were called to the 4800 block of North Island Drive East for a report of forced entry into a residence and missing jewelry. The resident had been staying with her boyfriend when a neighbor called to report her front door was open. After arriving at her residence, the reporting party discovered the door open and the door frame broken as well as three jewelry boxes missing from a closet. A fourth jewelry box was left open on a bed, though the jewelry as missing. Approximately six beers were also apparently missing from the resident’s refrigerator and a desk drawer had also been broken into. Police are investigating.

TRESPASSING: Police on March 23 were conducting a perimeter check at Mountain View Middle School when officers saw four juvenile males walking toward them from the direction of Bonney Lake High School. As the four approached, one of them saw the officers, lowered his head and then broke off from the other three, walking by himself across the track and toward the football field. The behavior was suspicious to the officers, who said it was “obvious that he did not want to be seen” by police. Police recognized the lone juvenile as someone who had been criminally trespassed from school grounds in the past, including an expulsion in October for behavioral problems including harassment and threats toward another student. At the time of his expulsion, the student was advised that he was not to return to school property. Officers recommended the case be forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor at Remann Hall.
