Pierce County prosecutors on March 16 charged a Bonney Lake woman with two counts of vehicular homicide in the crash that killed her two sons.

According to charging papers, Jayme Lynn Davis, 41, was driving under the influence on Jan. 16 when she lost control of her vehicle on Bay Street in Tacoma and crashed, killing her two sons, who were in the car at the time.

Davis’s sons were 11 and 8 at the time of the accident.

According to charging papers, Davis and her children were heading home from a monster truck show at the Tacoma Dome at approximately 10:35 p.m. when Davis lost control of her 1988 Mazda 929, crossed over a double yellow lone and a curb and crashed into a 1992 Lincoln Continental. The car was then struck broadside on the passenger side by a 1999 Toyota.

Davis told police she was changing lanes as she headed into the curve, but the brakes did not work and she entered the curve too fast.

Police ruled out mechanical failure in the crash.

According to documents from the prosecutor’s office, the officer who helped Davis out of her car on the night of the crash noticed “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her mouth.”

A second officer also noted a “strong smell of intoxicants” and said Davis’s eyes were blood shot and her face was flushed.

Blood taken from Davis three hours after the crash and sent to the state toxicology lab showed Davis to have a blood alcohol level of 0.07, just under the state limit.

According to the documents, Davis told officers “she and her boyfriend each had a couple of beers while eating popcorn” at the show.

Prosecutors charged Davis with two counts of vehicular homicide.
