Buckley ready for National Night Out

Buckley Youth Activity Center will host the city’s third annual National Night Out Tuesday.

Buckley Youth Activity Center will host the city’s third annual National Night Out Tuesday. The evening event, which is staged in cities across the country, seeks to connect civilians to local law enforcement agencies to promote a safer community.

“(Knowing) each other in a small town is important to making the community stronger and safer,” Youth Center Director Ellen Boyd said.

Attendees will be able to obtain free Child ID kits. The identification cards are for children who are not yet old enough to attend school. The cards contain important information like home contacts, parent work contacts, fingerprints and some medical data.

A fire engine and police squad cars will also be gathered for show. The fire department will cook up hot dogs for dinner. K-9 officer Yogi the Dog may make an appearance as well.

Local businesses and nonprofits are encouraged to set up booths and hand out advertisements or promotions, but should provide their own table, Boyd said. Participants are expected to confirm with Boyd by July 23 at 360-829-6534.
